When we got the email about a dog needing their leg removed at Richland County Shelter out of Mansfield, our tireless team sprang into action…again! Lisa Lowe jumped on the phone with our vets to determine what special needs and care she would need. She and Tara Centea figured they needed a road trip, and with adult dog foster homes just opening up, they could make it worthwhile and grab as many lives as would fit in the car that day….
Tippy arrived at the shelter with a bum leg. They thought she had been hit but the vet found the wound to be old and indeed she had broken her leg somehow in her youth. That can be a death sentence at any shelter. Thankfully, she was at a shelter who works hard with rescues – special thanks to their director, Lori. Within days, this life loving border collie mix was amputated and on her way to a fresh start. She never looked back, AND she never missed the leg.
From Tippy’s new owners- Mandy and Tim : “As a newly married couple, both of whom grew up with a family dog in our life, we knew having a pet was no option. That's when we stumbled upon Ilene (Tippy). It was love at first sight. She came to us fully trained and has the best disposition we’ve ever had in a dog. Adopting from S.O.S. was a wonderful experience. We’d highly recommend S.O.S. to anyone looking to add a loving pet to there home. Thank you S.O.S! Ilene (Tippy) is has turned out to be more than just a pet, she is a member of our family.”
